Summary: Although people over 85 constitute the most rapidly growing part of the American population, little has been done to prepare for this aging population. The current "care system" developed around a different set of perspectives and demographic imperatives and it seriously fails to serve the needs and priorities of the frail elderly population now. This book proposes a reform of the elder care system, with the goal of providing appropriate services to the elderly at an affordable cost to them and society. The plan that is proposed is "Medicaring Communities," a process with six core components, each explained in a separate chapter. The following chapters fill in the details and lay out a strategy for how to implement this plan
