Summary from videocassette container.
Female genital mutilation is a deep-rooted traditional practice found in Africa and elsewhere for over 2500 years. Although the practice has been banned in Kenya it continues secretly causing physical, psychological, religious, and relational harm to thousands of women. This video takes a three part approach to this topic. The first part is the launching of a book "Female circumcision" by Sr. Dr. Ephigenia W, Gachiri spelling out the effects of this rite on women. The second part is a dramatization of a true case study by Loreto Limuru Girls High School showing the kind of pressure put on a girl by the cultural environment. The third part brings out the Christian alternative rite of passage being offered to girls by Sr. Dr. Ephigenia and others, coupled by testimonies from women who share the real impact and complications of the operation and interviews from church readers who give their point of view on the possible solutions to this problem.
